Bed Time

Bedtime is my favorite for so many reasons! Coralie loves to snuggle at bedtime and I love it, even if she just makes me sit by the side of her bed. Tonight she was being super sweet and I was laying my head down next to her and kissed her on the forehead and she said 'thanks mom' and reached over and put her arm over me. She kept holding my hand and hugging it up to her face. It was just really sweet. I got teary eyed thinking about how much I love her and Oaklee.  She is such a sweet girl and the best big sister!  Feeling really blessed to have two sweet little girlies!

The Longest 10 Weeks

We are a family of four!  But I need to rewind a bit and write down the journey that we traveled to get our sweet Oaklee Rose to us.

I took fertility treatments to get pregnant with Coralie and did that again with this pregnancy.  We use femara and then the HCG trigger shot this time.  I know the exact date I got pregnant, that makes a pregnancy feel extra long!  When I went in initially for blood work the levels were not doubling which they are supposed to to show that things are going the way they are supposed to.  The dr thought I was probably miscarrying but had me come in the next few weeks to check them to make sure.  Each week things were not looking so great.  Finally by 12 weeks they said I had a viable pregnancy and my blood work was looking good.

Fast forward two weeks - I'm now 14 weeks and my water broke.  We were getting ready to go out for the night and through out the night it just kept leaking and leaking.  As I tried to sleep that night I still kept leaking.  I knew this was not a good thing but I also knew that if it was really bad I would be cramping and bleeding and that was not happening. I decided to call the on call dr in the morning which was a Sunday.  They said since I wasn't cramping or bleeding I could go to the hospital or just wait and see my regular dr the next day but that I should stay on bed rest that day.  I decided to wait and see my dr.  I called my dr in the morning and was told they were triple booked and would not see me and to go to the hospital.  I was livid!  I have a dr to be seen and should not be told to go to the hospital because they are too busy.  I called them several more times and said I needed to be seen that day or I would be seeing a different dr.  Hours later I finally heard back and they got me in and said everything was fine and sent me on my way, they didn't hardly do any testing and didn't do an ultrasound either.  Before hearing back from my dr I decided to call around and see if I could find another dr to get into soon.  I was able to make an appointment with Dr Bickley for the next day.

I went in and his nurse was awesome and so was he, they did several tests as well as an ultrasound and confirmed that is was my amniotic fluid that was leaking.  I had gone to this appointment alone which I wish I wouldn't have because we talked a lot and of course I was getting emotional so I can't remember everything he said.  All I know is that this early in pregnancy there is nothing they can do and most likely it will end in miscarriage.

I started seeing him weekly for ultrasounds to check my fluid levels and see how things were going.  He told me that generally when this happens you will miscarry within a week.  Each week my fluid levels were getting better and better.  By 16-17 weeks I was back to normal.  Had my fluid not built back up the plan was to go into the hospital around 23-24 weeks and get steroid injections to help baby girls lungs develop and then I would probably have delivered at 34 weeks.

The rest of the pregnancy couldn't have been more normal.  Each week that passed I think Dr. Bickley was shocked I was still pregnant, especially in those first few weeks after my water broke.  I saw a specialist when I hit 18 weeks and they said that if they didn't know I was pregnant they would have thought this was a normal pregnancy.  From there we planned on delivering full term and pregnancy went on.

I never felt worried about any of this but I really didn't feel like I was in the safe zone until I hit 24 weeks.  That was seriously the longest 10 weeks of my entire life.  If I started leaking again the plan was to deliver immediately and if that happened before 24 weeks there was nothing the doctors could do because the baby would be too small to put any tubes in them.

Pregnancy went on and on and on and was as normal as can be.  I thought for sure I'd start leaking fluid again the closer I got to the end of my pregnancy, but nope.  I was due Thanksgiving weekend and really hoped to have our sweet girl before then.  Dr Bickley offered to induce me the weekend before.  I was really worried about going to the full 40 weeks or passed because of how big Coralie was and Oaklee was on track to be that big too so we decided to go ahead and be induced.

BIRTHDAY TIME!

We went in on November 22nd to start the induction.  Everything was going smoothly and the epidural made me cry again just like it did with Coralie (so weird).  It didn't take on the left side this time though which was painful.  I was already at a 9 or 10 but didn't want to start pushing if it wasn't time for fear of pushing for 2 hours like I did with Coralie.  I was in a ton of pain though since I basically was having a half natural birth.  The nurse told me that some times pushing takes the edge off and we could try a few pushes and see if she starts coming.  She was right, it totally helped.  I started pushing about 1 in the morning on November 23rd.  By 1:28 I had my little nugget in my arms!  Whew!  What  relief to not push for so long!!!!  She weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and had a head full of curly dark hair!

Not long after I delivered I started bleeding a ton and passing clots the size of baseballs (totally crazy).  The nurses were all really concerned because it wasn't stopping and also thought it was weird because my vitals were all staying the same.  I lost about 2 liters of blood which was about half the blood I had in my body.  They ended up taking Oaklee to the nursery and took me to the emergency room to do a D&C (still not even sure what that stands for).  The only good part about this is the post pardum bleeding was totally minimized because of this surgery.  I was fortunate to not need a transfusion after all this happened.

Oaklee is truly our miracle baby.  The power of the priesthood is real.  After my water broke early on in this pregnancy Dave gave me a blessing and the leaking stopped and never happened again.  In the hospital after I started bleeding he gave me a blessing again and the bleeding stopped immediately.  What a blessing to have a wonderful husband who hold the priesthood to help in times of need.  I'm so thankful for him and for our sweet baby girl.  She is such a sweet happy baby and we love her more than words can describe.

15 months

Our baby girl turned 15 months this weekend.  She is growing so fast and is such a happy little thing.  Here's the latest:
  • She started walking two weeks ago.  Every day she is getting more brave and trying harder to walk.
  • She is talking so much.  She says mom, dad, hi, eyes, head, ears, mouth, there it is, water, and baby.
  • She can make tons of animal sounds.
  • She snaps her fingers, claps, and dances.
  • She loves her dog Fitz.
  • She loves all things dairy, especially cheese.  She loves bananas and peanut butter too.
  • She has 10 teeth, weighs only 18 pounds and is 30 1/2 inches.  The doctors are a bit concerned with her weight and have been having us do all the tests (blood work, sweat test and urine analysis) but so far everything has come back normal.  We'll be doing an ultra sound and more blood work next week.
  • She loves love LOVES her cousin Addi!  She loves her grandma's and grandpa's and aunts and uncles.  We got to spend some time with the Palmer cousins in October and she LOVED hanging out with all her cousins.
  • She loves to climb in the pillows on our bed but only once the bed is made up.  She climbs in them and whispers "hide, hide, hide".
  • She wakes me up by saying "mom" over and over in the morning.  If I don't get her fast enough she starts yelling for dad.
  • She loves fur.  She will pick at and bite anything that is furry.  Her stuffed animals are her favorite.
  • She is such a good helper.  She will help put her books away, clean up her toys and through stuff in the trash.  Luckily she hasn't learned to throw things away that shouldn't be yet.
  • She leads the music.  At first it started a few weeks ago in church but now whenever there is any music she will start to lead it.

Updates to my last two posts

I first have to say thanks to for the feed back and encouragement!  I never thought motherhood/parenting would be a breeze but I just didn't realize all t he different things you have to think about and the transition from working full time to not has been a little harder than I expected.  I've tried showering at night but my hair only does well after sleeping on it if it has product in in the day before.  Most days I get up and 5:30/6:00 and take a super fast shower and do my make up as fast as possible.  I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week because who has time for that any way!  I've found a few dry shampoos that I love and they make it possible for me!

Cleaning doesn't happen, lets be real.  I'm not going to be one of those people who scramble to pick up the millions of toys before my visiting teacher comes over.  Not happening.  Looking around my house as I speak, my floor under my kitchen table is covered in newspaper.  I started a project nearly two weeks ago now to paint my kitchen table and chairs and I'm still not done.  I'm close but not done.  My goal is to have it done by the weekend.  Pictures on that will come later.  Coralie's high chair is just sitting out and may or may not still have food on it - I don't remember.  I do see crackers all over the floor under it though so it probably has food on it too.  My island has a variety of cracker boxes out.  I'm loading her up with salt today in preparation for the sweat test tomorrow.  Behind me in the family room toys are everywhere.  I did manage to vacuum yesterday so that's good and I got a bunch of her clothes and shoes put away.

Sleep doesn't happen either.  I force myself to get at least 7 hours a few nights a week.  Every now and then on a Saturday Dave will take Coralie after I nurse her and go play with her so I can sleep in til 8:00.  I NEVER thought I would think that sleeping in until 8 was so amazing, but IT IS!  I feel bad because he gets up at 5 or 5:30 every day so I try to do the same for him sometimes on the weekend too.

Meal time - I am more careful with when I let Coralie get messy.  Breakfast is always a messy meal, unless I feed her something clean.  I like to let her eat on her own, I think it's fun for her and it gives me a little more time to load the dishwasher or something.  I do help her to make sure it does all just end up in crumbles and not in her mouth.  Lunch and dinner depend on if we are going somewhere or if I'm in a hurry or if I just straight up don't want to do another bath.

On a whole different note - we took Cora in to be weighed last week on Thursday.  She didn't gain ANY weight at all.  We went through 12 bottles of pediasure and a gallon of whole milk.  I was surprised that she didn't even gain anything.  She also had to get a a shot which I wasn't expecting so I felt bad!  The nurse said she would review the results with the doctor and let us know what he says.  On Friday I got a call back from the pediatricians office telling me they wanted to do a urine analysis, blood work and a sweat test.  I went in that day for the urine analysis.  They had to put a pee bag on her which I felt bad and she was all worked up when they put it on.  It didn't hurt or anything (it was just adhesive on a bag and then the diaper over it) but I think she was just nervous about what was going on.  Of course the whole hour I was there she didn't pee.  We left with the pee bag still in place and went to do blood work.  She was asleep when I got there so I left and went home.  The next time she went to the bathroom she pooped too so I had to do a new bag.  I took that one in after she finally went and also had them check her out because she had a little mucus in her poop and with all these other tests going on they said to let them know if there was anything else weird.  They were able to test it right away.  It came back with a uti.  Poor girl!  I didn't know and felt so bad I hadn't taken her in a couple days earlier.  I really didn't have any signs other than a diaper rash so I wouldn't have thought to take her in.

Monday I did the blood work.  My mom wanted to come and I was thankful she was there!  I had to hold Coralie with her back towards me in a bear hug so she wouldn't move (or try to keep her from moving).  They put the needle in her arm just like they would on an adult.  She screamed and cried, again I think mostly because she was nervous.  I didn't think I would be so worked up but turns out I was.  I started crying and my mom had to wipe my tears because I had to hold Cora.  It had to have been the saddest thing ever.  I felt so bad for her and now she has a bruise on her arm.  I got a call from the lab yesterday afternoon saying the "ran out of blood" (their words) to do one of the tests and they needed me to come back to draw more blood.  I was SO irritated!!!  Fortunately the doctors office called about 30 minutes later telling me they got the results and everything was normal.  What a relief.  I asked them about going back in to draw her blood again and they said they didn't need the other test and not to worry about it.  Another relief!  I hadn't been stressing about any of this until I scheduled the sweat test on Monday.  I'm not sure why it got me all worked up but it did.  I think it just sounded more involved then drawing blood and I have to go to Phoenix Childrens Hospital instead of just some lab.  That is scheduled for tomorrow.  I have to give her salty snacks and get her to drink 26 ounces of fluid today.  I have to get there 45 minutes early and also have to bring a blanket and a hat for her.  From everything I've read online (which I know I shouldn't have done) it sounds like the sweat test is to test for cystic fibrosis.  I'm just assuming that this is what they will be testing for tomorrow so I'm praying that will come back negative!  Lots of prayers going around our house this week.

I think everything will be fine with her and that she is just a little bitty thing but we'll see!!

Mom Problems

So I'm a recently new stay at home mom and there are a lot of things I need to learn.  When I first 'quit' my job Dave was still on second shift so I didn't need to worry about making time for stuff because he was here to help.  He recently changed shifts and now he is gone all day.  I'm glad he can work normal hours and get regular sleep at night but it has created a new way of life for me.  I'm sure most if not all of these things are problems I've created for myself but here we go.  I think that some of these things just come with the job but it is a learning process for me.

1. Personal hygiene.  When do you take a shower?  Up until a two weeks ago Dave was still home in the mornings so it never occurred to me that this could even be a problem.  Coralie doesn't nap til almost 11:00 sometimes and I feel like the biggest bum if I haven't showered and gotten ready for the day by then.  Getting up and getting ready before she gets up sounds like the ideal thing to do, I know, but I stay up til all hours of the night working, or something so waking up before 7:00 is so hard!  I also don't want to spend her nap time getting ready for the day because that is my only time to myself all day.  I like to use it either doing house work or paid work or wasting it by doing all the millions of other things I could do.  Help!

2. Bath time.  I'm sure this is not normal but we do bath time usually at least twice a day sometimes three times (after each meal).  I like Coralie to eat on her own or try and she does really good with the hand to mouth thing.  She is really trying to learn to eat with a spoon.  She will kind of let me help her but if she doesn't want me to and there is food on the spoon, her arms start waiving in frustration and food goes flying.  She also just doesn't keep it on the plate (duh) and this is fine but if she is done with something or decides she doesn't like, it gets dropped on the ground.  Last when she is done and if i'm not fast enoughm (or paying attention, lets be real), the bowl/plate of food gets picked up and dropped on the ground.  She then takes her adorable little baby hands and smears them all over the high chair, her chest, face and then if I try and stop her the messy little hands go in her hair.  Do I just not let her feed herself?  I would kind of like some sort of middle ground on this but don't know what that would be.

3. Sweeping/mopping.  Is this really going to be a constant never ending thing?  I could do this seriously 5 times a day.  When it was me and Dave we never had to do it this often.  I mean I know the whole food thing is a major factor but sheesh.  What is normal?  And what happens when we have another kid or 3 more kids?

4. Sleep.  Those days are over, right?  I guess if I went to bed at a normal hour sleep wouldn't be an issue.  I found myself figuring out every minute I have to myself.  There is about 6 of them on a good nap day or 4 on a bad and then I think of everything that needs to get done between house work, church calling, cooking, part time work at my office.  How do people do it?

I know my list goes on...  This isn't mean to complain but it has been interesting to learn this new job.  It's much harder than my full time paid job I just left.  I just need to figure this out!  I've already learned the "dishes can wait" tip but I'll take any others I can get.  I the mean time, I just love our little monkey and crawling around on the floor with her is the best!!!

Itty Bitty

We had Coralie's one year check up this week.  Four shots...I swear it gets sadder each time and I almost cry each time. She has been on the lower end of the charts at each appointment but this time her weight was so low she wasn't even on the charts!  Time to fatten this little girl up!  The doctor recommended milk, pediasure and something else that I already forgot what it was called because they didn't' have it at the store.  Anyway, I made a trip to Target on my way home from the doctor and got milk and pediasure.  I got the chocolate, banana and some fruit one.  She loves it!  The bottle straight up said it was for weight gain so we'll see how it works - it has 240 calories in one little drink.  That seems crazy and it seems odd to just give her some stuff to drink to help with the weight gain.  I feel like there should be like real foods she should eat?

Anyone have any other tips on making a baby chubby?

This is today. She got this little stroller from Grandma and Grandpa Palmer for her birthday with a little doll.  She loves her stuffed horse though so she traded the doll out for the horse and off she went.
